The Friday Five 002
1. What was the first band you saw in concert?
OK, well let me just preface my answer with the fact that my friend's mother bought us both tickets to see the Uncanny X-Men (yes...the shame, the shame) when I was in Year 8 and my parents wouldn't let me go. Grrr. So...my first concert was actually when I was 14 - I saw Inxs at the Tennis Centre. They rocked.
2. Who is your favorite artist/band now?
There is no way known that I could have one favourite. This is too hard!
3. What's your favorite song?
Oh God. See the answer above. Well...Carolyn's Fingers by the Cocteau Twins always makes me happy...so that would be up there in the top five, at least!
4. If you could play any instrument, what would it be?
The fiddle. I wanted to learn it when I was little (so I could carry around a cool looking violin case) but I got shunted off to piano lessons instead.
5. If you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why?
Hum. I think I'd have to meet David Gedge of The Wedding Present. Yep.

..was inspired by your blog to seek out some wedding present on kazaa ... found 'take me i'm yours' (live on peel session?) ... sounds great !
Ah! *grins*
There's nothing better than the Wedding Present guitar sound! What else can I recommend you to hunt down?
'Heather' from the album Seamonsters
'Skindiving' from Saturnalia
'Kennedy' from Bizarro - actually, the whole Bizarro album is really something you shouldn't be without.
OK, I'll stop now...
Their cover of Gang of Four's "i found that essence rare" is (i'll probably be lynched for saying this) better than the original, although it's the one i heard first. it's /faster/. It's on some random Peel Sessions thing.
It's good to know there's still a few Gedge fans in town ! Didja ever get into Cinerama ?
Yeah - I don't mind a bit of Cinerama, I've got a couple of their albums but they don't really do it for me in the same way - I suppose I just find them less 'raw' sounding than TWP. Did I mention that I once received an email from David Gedge himself!!? (Took me about three days to recover from the shock!)
I can't believe it's just today that I found out that the weddoes covered I found that essence rare. So I only recently got into Gof4, and love that song... so i was just searching for info on it on google, and see the weddoes (one of my BIG faves...) covered it too! I am by no means a completist so don't own many weddoes records... so i will have to hunt that down!
