Did I swim this morning? Yes I did. And I got into the water like a superhero.

Ben roused the house at the cheerful hour of half past five in the morning. When poor M had woken up, I’d looked at his eyes. One of them looked a bit sore.
“It’s mum,” he said, “She’s given me PINK EYE.”

After our swim we lingered over tea and coffee. Everything I did, I kept thinking ‘this is the last tea I’ll have here’ and ‘this is my last shower in this house’. Sigh. We went to the bank, and then headed out to say goodbye to M’s brother-in-law who was out working on the old trawler boat that he’d bought recently. And lost track of the time… So our departure from Faye’s house was in the end, a complete frenzy, and I didn’t have a moment to feel sad that she and all her accumulated odds and ends would be gone by the end of the week.

We went back out to the airport for the fourth time in six days, dragging our two new op-shop suitcases, containing a wooden elephant, an old electric mixer, lots of Cetaphil (donated by Y - a rep for Galderma), old letters, all my dresses that had been up there for the past year and various other bits and pieces. J, Y and little Ben came to see us off, and waved at us all the way as we crossed the tarmac and climbed the stairs up into the plane. It kind of felt like something had come to an end.
