I bought a house! Yes - that’s up there on the stress ladder along with death and divorce. Not to mention that I couldn’t do things simply and actually buy a house in the state I currently reside in, no, I had to head north and find a Queensland house.
Here is a picture;

And another picture;

For those who don’t know, when you move to a different state in Australia, it’s kind of a big deal. The distance involved is the main issue. Now I’m moving not to the next state, but to the state after that. Hervey Bay, to be exact - right opposite Fraser Island near the beginning of the Whitsundays. Now here’s the scary part; it’s 1,870 kilometres away, which is equal to about 22 hours of driving.
The house needs some doing up, but is generally fine - the water is at the end of the street. It was pretty cheap, so we are hoping to just pretty it up and in doing so, increase it’s value. It’s all very exciting, but I was too scared to divulge anything until the owner had signed the contract of sale and the papers were at the solicitors. Of course I’m sure everything could still all fall through - the finance has to be sorted by the 4th of April, which to my horror, is a week today. But everything is in motion and all I can do is just push it along….
I wasn’t hugely excited until I started telling a few friends, and then I started getting pretty smiley. Then I get a phone call at work and it turns out to be Scott from CrunchyFrog calling from Iowa?! I almost fell on the floor. He said his jaw was still on the floor from my house news so I suppose we were both in similar states. So bizarre actually speaking to someone I’ve been emailing for a couple of years. I mean, it was bizarre and it wasn’t bizarre at all. So of course after the call dropped out I stood shrieking at my two co-workers and we were all shrieking and then my boss walked it and we all stopped, looked guilty and scuttled to our desks. That’s right. I haven’t told my boss. I’m too scared. He’s going to be v.disappointed. I want to tell him before the end of today, but I’m having trouble finding the right moment.
I did tell him last week that we were thinking of moving to Hervey Bay to hang out with M’s mum and the rest of his family, but…well. Anyway, it has to be done. So there’s the news!! I’m feeling pretty positive about it - trying not to think of the fact that I’ll be leaving everyone behind. Thank goodness for the internet!! It’s not going to be forever - most probably won’t even be for a year. Now I’ve got to figure out how to get the two cats up there! Have been investigating a company called JetPet (hee hee) and there is a vast reduction in price if the two cats go in the same container. Do I dare? I’m scared that when they arrive at the other end all I’ll find are bits of paw and a few whiskers…oh dear….
Haven’t actually seen the house myself, which is kind of weird, but the pictures on the agents website were good (I know you are clutching your head thinking “tell me she didn’t buy a house without actually seeing it” - do not fear) and M’s sister and brother-in-law checked it out very thoroughly inside and out. They reckon it’s a very good buy. It has 1.25 acres and I want to get a chicken. A fast one.
Have more news, but that’s nowhere near as exciting, so it can wait. Here’s a few more pictures.
Looking through the house to the front? (Or is it the back?)
A bedroom.
Sunroom or sleepout, not sure which.
Bottom of the garden.

As a born & bred Qld’er, I would say that you ’sunroom/sleepout’ is actually an enclosed verandah! I’d call it ‘the verandah’!!
