Poor Fishy R.I.P

He was floating sadly when I got in last night after seeing Adaption at the cinema (not as good as Being John Malkovich, but still…that was a hard one to better). I scooped him up on one of those vegetable serving spoons that let the water run out but the carrots stay, and gave him a burial in the backyard. I did think of taking a photo of him as he lay on the spoon because he was very pretty – shiny black and defined with see through tail. But I thought that R would rather remember him swimming. Now I have to think of how to tell her in a way that doesn’t insinuate that I…

    a) savagely beat her fish to death
    b) blocked it’s gills with bits of weed and watched it drown
    c) held it by the tail and let the other fish eat all the food
    d) suffocated it by using too much hairspray too close to the tank

All of the above would be very bad. I don’t know why he died – and I can’t think of anything bad that I did. Maybe he just missed her more than the others :o(

    \—end of fish saga—\

Had a fun time last night with my blogger-babe friend Claire and we’ve agreed that more movies are good. I have seen more movies in the last two weeks than in the last year! I think I am part of a growing demographic…

Got a nice email from a different Claire (of Loobylu – see left sidebar) who said it was fine for me to use her wallpaper and tint it purple – she thinks ‘it looks very nice indeed.’ So then I felt fuzzy.

Today, as you will hopefully see down the bottom left hand side of the page, is going to be 37 degrees!! This is bloody hot and is Victoria’s first day of total fire ban this Summer (and probably last Summer as well because it was so totally crap. Summer is an odd looking word if you sit and look at it too long, as I have just been doing.) Riding to work from Collingwood this morning was quite nice, but riding home is going to give Melbourne a shining example of how red my face can go. I used to be stopped in the street when walking home from netball and asked if I was OK. That is because I double as a firetruck. It’s most distressing. I was sitting in Lygon Street yesterday watching all these people gliding around who weren’t even PINK let alone perspiring. I think it’s my English genes.

There’s a great article in The Age today about childhood trips to the beach. Oooh, it makes me want to run away. Now that the Humber has crucified my chance of travel I am dallying with the idea of heading back up the coast for a couple of weeks…hum. I don’t mind the drive too much, now I know that audio books are the key to driving survival – and when you get to where you want to go, you have transport! Unlike when you fly and then need to hire a car.

My plot is to save my $150 Virgin Blue voucher to take off somewhere for my birthday. Am setting off in an hour to meet up with my Dad for lunch – please god let the tram be air-conditioned!! Gee – this has been an exciting post! I’m sure you’re all bedazzled! Comments on what is good to eat when it’s 37 degrees are appreciated…probably not the special panchetta pasta sauce…I’ll save that for the cool change.

Yes I know that, but I have to point out, that I went around the other day and they have a brand new fish that is very happy. And the other one that disappeared while I was in residence, well…they put another fish in the tank and it disappeared too!!
